Travel Information For The Mobility Impaired

Eiffel Tower at dusk

Welcome to Rebecca's Travels!

Whether you travel for business or leisure, to the beaches of some remote island or the neighborhood grocery, if you have a disability, you may encounter difficulties.

On this site, we will inform you of our triumphs and disasters, so that hopefully your travel will be a pleasent experience.

If you use a wheelchair you may not have access to places that the majority of people frequent.  There are laws that are slowly opening doors for all of us, however, we live in a big world of many cultures and many different priorities.

In Boston, for example, it is not feasible, or desirable for all of the beautiful cobble stone streets to be replaced with smooth surfaces.  It would destroy the beauty of this New England city.  So, it is important for all of us who use wheelchairs, canes, or other aids to be aware and prepared.

On a recent visit to Macy's in Sacramento, California, I had no difficulty rolling my wheelchair through the store.  The automatic door worked and there were no stairs.  The door of the woman's restroom is big and heavy, so you will require assistance. The men's shoe department was a bit of a challenge, but the salespeople were very willing to help.

This is the type of information I will be sharing with you.  We travel often and of course we have errands and shopping that must be accomplished.  I will observe and report every useful and entertaining tidbit.

And, share your stories with us!

Our trip to the City of Lights was amazing.  It was a city of contrasts, especially for the mobility challenged.  Please read about our experiences and share yours with us.

Lions, Tigers, and no Bears--oh my... . Please visit my Adventures page for my visit to the Sacramento Zoo.  The review is near the bottom of the page under Adventures Out of Town.

Traveling to the UK some time in the future? John Howarth and his partner Trevor have designed a wonderful, interactive, information packed website just for you.  For my trip to the land of fish and chips, I will peruse their data base at www.abletogo.com for the perfect accommodations.  This website enables the disabled and elderly to search for all types of lodging.

Don't miss their link on my "Contact Us" page.

I have just finished a new booklet, Life Lessons MS Has Taught Me; And, it just keeps getting better.  Please consider it.

Question of the month:  What is your favorite destination?  Why?  Please e-mail us with your answer.

From short errands around Davis, California to international travel, we will report it all to you.

Please share your experiences by e-mailing me at:
